Every new student has the same questions. Here are honest answers to all of them.
Not at all — and this is one of the most common worries we hear. Your free trial lesson happens before any instrument purchase. During that session, Alexander will help you understand what to look for, whether buying or renting makes more sense for your situation, and point you to trusted, affordable options. Many students borrow or rent an instrument for the first few weeks with zero pressure to buy.
That's actually our favourite starting point. Complete beginners don't carry bad habits, so you progress faster with a clean slate. Alexander has guided hundreds of total beginners to playing their first real pieces within weeks — not months. The curriculum starts exactly where you are, no matter how little (or much) you already know.
Most beginners play their first recognisable melody by the end of their second or third lesson. By the end of the first month, you will typically have 2–3 short pieces you can play start to finish. The pace is determined entirely by your goals — whether that is classical repertoire, pop songs, or something you have always wanted to learn.
Your trial is a genuine 30-minute introductory session, not a sales pitch. Alexander will ask about your musical background and goals, introduce you to basic technique for your instrument, and play a short piece together with you. By the end you will have a clear sense of what regular lessons look like — and there is absolutely no obligation to continue.
For most students, yes — and in some ways better. Online lessons allow you to learn in your own space on your own instrument without travel time. Alexander uses a dual-camera setup so you can see both his hands and face simultaneously. The only exception is very young beginners (under 7), where we typically recommend in-person for the first few months.
We teach students from age 5 through adult — there is genuinely no upper limit. Some of our most rewarding students started learning in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. Adults often progress faster than children because of stronger focus and intrinsic motivation. If you have always wanted to play, the best time to start is now.
Life happens and we completely understand. We ask for 24 hours notice for a free reschedule. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance may be subject to a late cancellation fee. We keep lesson credits that roll over, so you never lose a session you have already paid for.
Yes — this is a real contractual commitment, not a marketing line. Once you confirm your first paid lesson at the Founding Rate, that price is written into your student agreement and will never increase as long as you remain a student. Current students who joined in our first year are still paying the same rate today, even as we have raised prices for new enrolments twice since.
As a beginner, 15–20 minutes a day is genuinely enough to make meaningful progress — consistency matters far more than marathon sessions. Alexander will give you a focused practice plan after every lesson so you always know exactly what to work on, which removes the guesswork that stalls most self-learners.
